Six More Weeks of Winter

If weather prediction were left to up to the Squirrel Queen instead of that annoying prognosticator Punxsutawney Phil, there would be no way that six more weeks of winter would be an option.

Who listens to a groundhog anyway? Fraidy cat scared of its own shadow.

Not the Squirrel Queen. I’m mandating an early arrival for spring.

I’m booking it a flight on Priceline right now.

William Shatner would be so proud.

Hacked Stop Signs

What with all the snow on the roads around here, everyone is yakking about reckless fools sliding through stop signs due to their carelessness combined with the driving conditions.

So in honor of the octagonal red intersection commands, Urlesque has hacked stop signs and their unexpected messages.

Everything from MC Hammer to Harry Potter gets referenced. Some of the pics are photoshopped but others have been physically altered.

None of them, however, offer a zombie warning for you.

Cool Google Street View – Pompeii Ruins

So budget woes have kept you from taking a holiday vacation this year.

Same here for the Squirrel Queen.

For those of us who spend hours watching the Discovery and History channels, this will be a perfect alternative to that whirlwind trip around the world.

Instead of forking over wads of cash to fly your extra bag across the globe, just click on Google Street View’s tour of the ruins of Pompeii.

The tour of the city that Vesuvius stopped in time is cool stuff that can entertain you for hours.

It doesn’t come with a tour guide and you can’t buy tacky souvenirs, but it’s a great trip none-the-less.

Now if I can justĀ  find the baths with all the naughty frescoes they always allude to during shows about those randy Italians.

Here’s more Google fun.

Cheap Souvenirs and Vacation Photos

I think lots of people have little quirky things they do to create moments and mementos when they’re on vacation.

Check out Michael Hughes vacation snaps from around the globe. He buys the cheapest souvenir he can find that represents the local landmark, landscape or statue. Then he holds up the souvenir to match the view of the horizon.

He’s been everywhere from San Francisco to Egypt snapping his fun pics. To read about his technique, how it began, the man attached to the hand and to see lots more pics, read his story at the London Daily Mail.

His pics remind me of the photographer who recreates famous photos with Legos characters.

Traveling Vicariously Via Vespa

Meet Eric and his Vespa.

They’re traveling along Route 66 this summer on a journey entitled Scoot66. The former book store owner was hoping to cover the distance in 66 days, but is running a bit behind.

He’s currently in Idaho and the weather isn’t playing nice, but the scenery there has impressed him. Idaho, go figure.

For those of us whose vacations have been derailed by real-life expenses, health, etc., we can at least travel vicariously with him as he wanders across the U.S.

Check out his journey, his rants, his history lessons, his pics and his music.

Maybe Jeffraham can rig up some sidecar sort of thing on his scooter so he and Curly and Larry Elvis and the gang can make their own crazy trek.

Where the Hell is Matt Now

That goofy dancing dude has been adding pages to his passport again.

You may remember him from his earlier travel video from 2006.

Matt Harding has a new video of himself dancing around the globe.

Here’s a video of his travel outtakes that includes some extra info about most every shot. If you watch this one, make sure you stay and keep watching past the end credits when baby goes boom.
