Halloween offers adults a chance to pretend they’re something or someone they’re not. Unless you’re in a local theater group or participate in live-action role-playing games or make $$$$ as a magician or work at Disney World, you’re not likely to don a costume on the average day.
Halloween is that one night a year you’re allowed to be Superman or Wonder Woman.
Little kids don’t know how great they have it. They can be a superhero just about any day. Drape a bath towel over their shoulders and suddenly they have the ability to fly. Put on a glove and they can shoot webs from the palms of their hands. Don a cowboy hat and they’re Woody. The trappings don’t have to be fancy. The imagination takes care of the rest. Sidekicks can be invisible or stuffed. Any day, every day.
And they save the world every time.
For those of you recalling those days with rough terry cloth held neath your chin by your sibling’s diaper pin, this site is for you.
Growing up Heroes shows us all those pics – old and new – of youth in all its super glory.

I was listening to Terry Gross on NPR’s Fresh Air on Thursday and they had a wonderful piece on singer Sugar Pie DeSanto.
I decided then and there that this would be my Feel Good Friday song.
Tonight I want to go the party Sugar Pie is about to attend and watch her dance all night long.
Oh, and I don’t have a clue why all the visuals in the video are shots of vintage scooters. Not a clue, but they’re pretty cool too.

I was watching The Daily Show on Tuesday night, and Jon Stewart had a clip of Sarah Palin helping John McCain campaign for re-election for his Senate seat in Arizona.
Of course, Stewart made light of Palin taking a shot at McCain’s age when she suggested he was at the original tea party way back when in Boston Harbor.
But what got my attention was the leather jacket the former governor of Alaska was sporting. Stewart made an “Airwolf” comment, which of course brings back connotations of shooting Alaskan wildlife from a helicopter.
For me, that jacket and those hair highlights scream “Leather Tuscadero.”
Go back with me to that happy time in our past. No, not election day in November, but way back to “Happy Days” the television show that allowed Opie to grow up and move from Mayberry, RFD to Milwaukee.
Think about it, an aging cool hero, aka Fonzie or McCain, and that young rocker chick who brings him new street cred, aka Leather Tuscadero or Palin. I think you’re on board with me now.
And here’s Suzi Quatro in all her cousin-of-Pinky-Tuscadero glory, singing “Johnny B. Goode.”

Business in the front and party in the back.
Who knew you could buy an air freshener that captured the essence that is the 80s hairstyle?
Apparently you can.
My guess is it smells a whole lot like Aqua Net.
And what does Bambi have to do with this hair-smelling piece of cardboard?

I ran across this new Halloween-themed song by Jill Sobule.
I think the title of her ditty says it all – “Women Whose Halloween Costume Is Just That They’re Slutty.”
Here’s a snippet.
It’s women whose Halloween costume is just that they’re slutty
That’s not a costume at all. What happened to Witches and monsters?
They left the Halloween Ball
You can go over to Huffington Post and just read the rest of the lyrics, but I recommend you listen to Sobule’s Halloween song to get the full effect.
The lack of imagination in recent costume seasons is underwhelming. Sobule speaks out about slutty holiday garb, and this is coming from someone who “Kissed a Girl.”
If you don’t mind undead hot chicks, I can show you a zombie calendar girl.
If you want to see some really creative costumes, check out this post of sushi Halloween costumes from last year.

It’s Feel Good Friday and time for some retro Liar, Liar and I’m not talking about the movie Liar Liar with Jim Carrey.
It’s the Castaways and in this clip from the movie “It’s a Bikini World” you get a groovy go-go dancer doing the swim in a red bikini with some swinging fringe. Notice the vampiric pallor of her pasty white skin. Good stuff. Also in the opening moments before the song starts, the bearded dude sitting down is Sid Haig who starred decades later in Rob Zombie’s “House of 1,000 Corpses” as Captain Spaulding. Also seated is Tommy Kirk, who was still trying to put food on the table after all those Disney teen movies including “Son of Flubber” dried up.
Happy Friday everyone.

Ahhhh, spring is in the air (finally).
With that breath of fresh air comes prom season for those just waiting to make that once-in-a-lifetime purchase of the ultimate gown and tuxedo combination.
Ohhh, the folly of youth.
Over at nextround.net, the images of prom finery gone awry are giggle inducing.
Everything from camo (below) to Winnie the Pooh can be spotted in this prom walk.
And if you thought I was going to share a photo of me from prom past, think again.
