Face in Space

squirrel astronaut

Sometimes NASA is just cool.

A couple of years ago they sent a Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter into orbit around the moon. Included on the craft was a microchip that had the names of anyone who submitted their moniker to the NASA website. I made sure that little chip had my name upon it. Matter of fact, as a tribute to a friend who loved space but was taken too soon by the damned demon that is cancer, we actually filled out the form in his name and gave the certificate to his widow. Stew is still circling the moon as we speak.

I mean heck, we obviously aren’t getting flying cars or living like the Jetsons and jetting off to space anytime soon. I thought that was my one shot at being an astronaut.

Until NOW!

NASA is at it again. This time you can send your pic out into the zero gravity zone on an upcoming launch of the Space Shuttle.

I submitted the pic at the top of this post. See, I was already prepared for my astro moment.

The Face in Space page says:

NASA wants to put a picture of you on one of the two remaining space shuttle missions and launch it into orbit.

(snip)

Return to this site after launch to print your Flight Certificate – a commemorative certificate signed by the Mission Commander.

How cool is that!?!?!

And just know that if my picture sees a UFO while it’s out there, I told it to wave at the little green men and then come back and report to Fox Mulder.

Ke$ha and Star Trek

The only thing that could make an earworm more palatable and tolerable would be a mashup.

I’ve had Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” cycling through my head for about a week now. (Thank you. I know your pity is palpable).

To make the pain a little easier, I found this video that combines the pop star and Captain Kirk and now I must share it with you.

Ok, it’s not sharing, it’s more like I’m spreading the misery.

You can thank me later.

William Shatner’s and Stewie’s Rendition of Elton’s Rocket Man

Oh, William Shatner, how I heart you and your vocal stylings.

I found Shatner’s rendition of the Elton John tune “Rocket Man” and I can’t get enough of this. It was part of the televised 1978 Science Fiction Film Awards.

As if his singular version isn’t trippy enough, through the “magic of television” they bring in a couple of other versions of Shatner for a trio finale.

I wonder if Travelocity could use any of this footage in their commercials? Nahh.

As a bonus, you get Karen Black introducing Bernie Taupin at the front end of the clip.

Of course, Family Guy lets Stewie do his dream version of Shatner, but I’ll stick with the truly original Captain Kirk puffing, sweating and offering dramatic pauses as he wends his way through Elton’s tune.

Of course, I’ve previously documented here at the Queen’s abode some appreciation of Captain Kirk’s appeal to alien babes and the Star Trek theme song.

Jack Black’s Jig on Yo Gabba Gabba!

I understand the big, new kiddy television trend is Yo Gabba Gabba! on Nick Jr.

Bright colors, weird costumes, music – why wouldn’t a toddler go nuts for this stuff?

What I like is the fact that some of Hollywood’s quirkiest are stopping in for guest appearances. (Amy Sedaris as the Tooth Fairy, The Office’s Angela Kinsey, Biz Markey, The Shins, Elijah Woods, etc.).

Here’s my favorite visitor to the set of Yo Gabba Gabba! – Jack Black. What’s not to love when a gamboling, jigging, giant Orange Dreamsicle of a man frolics in an uninhibited manner about the stage?

Hat tip to The Bloggess for the video.

Now, let me say, not having a rugrat youngster in the house, I haven’t tuned into the show. Matter of fact, I was pretty much unaware of it until I ran across the Jack Black appearance.

Then I was struck by a visual image I couldn’t ignore. On that side note, is it just my perverted brain that thinks the character Muno looks like something purchased in an adult bookstore?

Think about it – one “eye”, red, covered in pleasure-inducing nubs.

I’m not the only one apparently.

The San Fransisco Examiner’s baby blog The Poop pointed out the sex toy relation.

As did Glamour Magazine’s Daily Single Mom blog Storked.

Scar Wars – a Scarface, Star Wars Mash-up

I ran across this mash-up of Han Solo from Star Wars and Tony Montana from Scarface over at the Entertainment Weekly site.

It’s funny stuff, although there is some adult language involved. Hey, it’s Tony freakin’ Montana people. Of course, there are some F-bombs involved.

EW also has a Star Trek/A-Team mash-up, if you’re so inclined.

More Cool Jack-o-lanterns

In case you hadn’t noticed from some of my recent posts, the falling leaves have put me in a Halloween sort of mood. Here’s another one for you.

The Pumpkin Gutter is one fun artist.

His creations cover everything from movie characters

Lebowskisuch as The Dude

or

Terminatorthe Terminator

to just creepy stuff like

an eyeball

Pumpkin eyeballHere it is lit up.

Pumpkin eyeball litHe even creates your not-so-basic creepy faces.

Old YellerThere are tons more cool jackolanterns of animals, historical and political figures and just the unusual weirdness in the galleries on his site.

For more creepy pumpkin links, here’s a pumpkin carving post from last year.

Om Nom Nom Nom

Suddenly I’m very hungry.

(Don’t let the still image on the video fool you. It’s not overtly sexual in nature and very safe for work, etc.)
