Yma Sumac – Gopher Mambo. Hey, gophers aren’t exactly squirrels, but they’ve got to be related somewhere down the line.

Her vocal range was astounding, reaching up to five octaves. Amazing.
And she was one of the original divas too.

Tough old bird of the stage like this are getting harder and harder to find. Today’s divas seem relatively tame by comparison, perhaps a function of having been corporatized.
