King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters

June 1, 2008 · 5 Comments

I’ve seen it listed on the grid a few times before but never watched it.

That was my loss, because tonight I tuned in for some highly entertaining gaming.

I watched King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters tonight.

WOW. And I don’t mean WoW (World of Warcraft) as Ron so often raves about.

I’m typing about a pair of guys challenging each other for the title of World’s Best Donkey Kong player.

The documentary includes a nemesis, a conspiracy theory, lots of gamer wannabes, the underdog, the champion, an official judge, a little old lady from Florida, hot wing sauce, patriotic ties and the Guinness Book of World Records.

And lots of drama, emotion, human foibles and ego.

I highly recommend you check out this one the next time it shows up on G4 or Spike.

Here’s the trailer to the pic.

And just to keep you faithful readers in a gaming mood, here’s some classic Who with Pinball Wizard.

And for those who like a little piano with their pinball, how about Elton John.

We’ll wrap up with a commercial for the home version of the game that caused the feud.
